A string of newer materials including: (1) metallocene LLDPEs, (2) Metallocene PE copolymers, (3) Hydrogenated SB copolymers, (4) Elastomeric polypropylene, (5) reactor TPOs, (6) Catalloys, (7) Ethylene Styrene interpolymers, (8) Rexflex copolymers and others were introduced into the market as potential replacements to PVC.rnHowever very few product could succeed because of they did not address the true underlying factors of the PVC industry It appears that many segments in the are vulnerable to replacement by polyolefins, especially in flexible applications. The alternative materials have made significant in-roads into various film applications, footwear, medical/industrial tubing applications,rnThe polyolefin industry will continue to innovate new products for PVC replacement The need for PVC replacement is a reality The PVC industry will face these issues for more time to come The issues are intertwined with politics, emotions, medical/environmental and market issues. PVC survived the onslaught for the last decade and will survive for a long time to come. This will still result in newer opportunities for polyolefins.
