In this paper, we propose and analyze a discrete-time based finite queueing model with deterministic service times and an MMPP(Markov Modulated Poisson Process) as a bursty input traffic of IP packets in order to investigate the performance of an ATM-LAN interworking unit with thresholds based dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme. We assume that all messages are segmented into almost fixed size transmission units, called IP packet in Internet environment. As performance measures, we obtain the packet loss probability and the mean packet delay of an arbitrary packet. We present some numerical results to show the effects of the thresholds on the performance of the dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme.
