Abstract: The use of acousto-optic (AO), electro-optic (EO), and acousto- electro-optic (AEO) effects has been demonstrated as an effective means of performing wide-band signal processing operations such as convolution, correlation, and matrix processing. In this paper, we present experimental results using a new integrated optic AEO device fabricated on a y-cut, z-propagating lithium niobate substrate with a titanium in-diffused surface waveguide. Incident and diffracted light is coupled through the device by use of optical fibers. Device fabrication and performance are discussed, as well as potential future directions of this work. !8
