French Organisation and Technical Developments concerning the RN Security of Major Public Events

The CBRN terrorist threat is of major concern for numerous states. In this frame, France created inrn1995 the Inter-ministerial Central Detachment for Technical Intervention (DCI_IT): a dedicated structure tornsupport the authority in charge of the crisis. The DCI_IT is composed of people from Homeland securityrnMinister (Police squad, scientific police and civilian defence), Defence Minister (EOD teams), and FrenchrnAtomic Energy Commission (CEA).rnTherefore, when the French government has to organize a major international event, the DCI_IT implements arnspecial survey in the CBRN fields. The military division of CEA (a historical DCI_IT’s partner) has in chargernthe RN fields in terms of definition of technical equipment, operational teams deployed on the field, researchrnand expertise.rnFor example, DCI_IT was involved in radiological and nuclear security of major public events which arernsystematically put in place during large scale or sensitive events, such as the G8 and G20 Summit, thernAnniversary Ceremonies related to D Day and the Liberation of France, the visit of the Pope, the NATOrnSummit, the Rugby World Cup, …rnWe will present the organization of the DCI_IT, the strategy of NR security during major events based on morernthan 10 years of experience and enriched by technical developments resulting from CEA research programs.
