ACQUISITION OF IMPROVED REFERENCE VALUES FOR CAESIUM, IODINE, STRONTIUM, THORIUM AND URANIUM IN SELECTED NIST REFERENCE MATERIALS

In collaboration with the National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS), Japan, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is currently supporting a Co-ordinated Research Project (CRP) in ten Asian countries on "Ingestion and Organ Content of Trace Elements of Importance in Radiological Protection". The participating countries are Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines and Vietnam. This CRP represents the second phase of a larger project on "Reference Asian Man", which is concerned with obtaining reference data, similar to the ICRP Reference Man. The original ICRP Reference Man was based mainly on subjects living in Europe and North America; the purpose of the new project is to obtain similar data for subjects living in Asian countries.
