The way of storage at room temperature acceptable for lyophilized and homogenized biological materials including SRM is particularly attractive for its simplicity and easy access. The conclusion about good stability of the elemental composition can be drawn based on the results of the study of many plant SRMs after their 15-20-year storage under the above conditions. [1, 2]. However, along with an optimistic assessment, there appeared some reports concerning great losses of As in lyophilized biomaterials stored at room temperature [3, 4]. The losses of this element can follow possible formation of volatile species of As [3]. It is known that volatility is mostly attributed to halogens. The present study is to assess halogen stability under long-term storage of lyophilized biomaterials at room temperature.
