ELEMENTAL ANALYSIS OF BLOOD OF NIGERIAN HYPERTENSIVE SUBJECTS

Hypertension is the most common cardiovascular disorder in middle aged Nigerians, both male and female. It is not rare and occurs at the same levels in Nigeria as it does in the Western World. Most cases are of unknown aetiology. The commonest form of hypertension is called essential hypertension and is the type studied here.rnVarious studies have examined the effect of various parameters in the aetiology of hypertension. For example, studies have been carried out to investigate the effects of salt consumption on blood pressure; the effect of dairy products, dietary fats and antioxidants have also been examined. The level of intake of potassium has been linked to the development of hypertension while studies have looked into the differences between the blood pressure of vegetarians and non-vegetarians.
