Radiation Protection Infrastructure in the Republic of Yemen: Country Report

The National Atomic Energy Commission (NATEC) is the National Competent Authority in thernRepublic of Yemen. NATEC has all the requirements to carry out its mandate. In addition, it has the Assistancernof the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), mainly through its Model Projects for Establishment ofrnRadiation Protection Infrastructure and Waste Safety (RAW/6/009, RAW/9008, RAW/9009), which have beenrngoing on for many years now. The sources of radiation in the country come from mainly the oil and gas industryrnand the medical practices, which is limited at present to diagnostic radiology. There are some radioactivernsources, with little activity, used in education and research. NATEC has been implementing a comprehensivernprogram in radiation safety in two aspects, the first is the protection of people and environment and the second isrnthe safety and security of radioactive sources. Through, these Model Projects, we established inventory ofrnradiation sources, systems of registration, authorization and enforcement, personnel monitoring program, etc. Wernbelieve that NATEC has a very competitive and strong radiation protection program if not the strongest in thernregion.
