The reduced product life cycles, high product quality, increasing product variety, decreasing production volume, continuous innovation and timely customized services have completely changed the global manufacturing scenario. The ability of manufacturing industries to adjust quickly to changing conditions in this IT driven market will be an important key to success in the future. The agile manufacturing is about doing the business in different ways. This paper provides insight into the changing roles of manufacturing with emphasis on the latest paradigm 'Agile Manufacturing'. It also highlights about the readiness of Indian manufacturing industries to adapt the agile manufacturing and discusses the kinds of technological support required to achieve the competitive advantage.
