EXPERIENCE IN THE PREPARATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE FIRST SOCIOECONOMIC PLAN AT THE DOUNREAY NUCLEAR SITE

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority in the United Kingdom has required the management and operations contractors of its sites to prepare annual socioeconomic development plans. The paper discusses the first socioeconomic development plan, prepared for the Dounreay Nuclear Establishment in the far north of Scotland, and identifies the lessons learned from it which will be taken into account in the preparation of future plans for the sustainablity of the area around the site.
