A diode pumped Nd:YAG rod master-oscillator power-amplifier system (MOPA) has designed, fabricated and tested. The device delivers a maximum average power of 220 W in a near top hat beam, with the repetition rate of 2.5 kHz and the pulse width of 51 ns. With a two-stage KTP crystal this system has produced 131 W green average power at a frequency-conversion efficiency as high as 65.2%. The MOPA system was continuously operated for 100 hours, starting with an initial green power of 106 W. As the experiments finished the green power was 97.4 W. The decrease in green power, which was mainly attributed to the gray tracing effect in KTP, was characterized by a slope of 0.07-%/hour. The amplifier heads incorporate new concepts for both the pump cavity and the pump source to cavity transport line. These results are believed to be the highest 1.064-μm average power, the highest average green power and the longest time operation at 100-W green power ever reported for a MOPA system of rod geometry.
