INVENTORY COST MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES BASED ON POSTPONEMENT

In this paper, the effect of low inventory to the risk of production interruption and to manufacturing costs is analyzed firstly. The thought of postponement is introduced into manufacturing inventory planning and control systems and then strategies of postponement inventory management are proposed. It is shown in the research that the strategies of inventory management based on postponement can decrease the inventory in manufacturing systems and therefore decrease the costs of manufacturing. The agility of manufacturing systems can also be improved by introducing these strategies.
