A New Generation of Generator Circuit-breakers for Pumped Storage Power Plants

Generator circuit-breakers, i.e. circuit-breakers installed between the generator and the step-up transformer, are widely used in pumped storage power plants nowadays because the use of such circuit-breakers allows the electrical scheme of a pumped storage power plant to be greatly simplified. A completely new development is the integration of all the associated items of switchgear necessary for the operation of a pumped storage power plant into the generator circuit-breaker housing. The greatly improved functionality of this new generation of generator circuit-breakers for pumped storage power plants allows more compact and economic power plant layouts. Beside a substantial reduction of the first cost this new solution also makes possible considerable savings in time and expenditures for erection and commissioning.
