A Study on Technical Competencies of Books Editors in Taiwan

Along with the fast development of modern technology, technology has profoundly affected printing industry. According to literature, the market share of paperbound book will be decreased from current 70% to 30% in the future while the e-book will be raised to 70% of book market. In addition, the electronic publishing will gradually increasingly contribute 10%-30% of publishing net income. With these radical changes, supervisors from publishing industry are confronting big challenges. Therefore, this research aim at this problem, collect related literatures and conduct deep interviews with editors and supervisors on the scene. The purposes of this study focus on two directions 1 ) What competencies required to meet current industrial needs of their workers; 2 ) What a training program can be developed to enhance workers competencies. The result of this research will be able to provide references for the personnel , who have intention to enter the book publishing industry; and for the related department and training unit, in choosing, training, and employing of human resource of the editor in the future.
