Realistic estimation of scour depth around spur dikes in alluvial rivers is important for safe and economic design of their foundations. Earlier research into the problem has mainly been of an experimental nature, with equations being derived for particular conditions. The available predictive equations for maximum scour depth, are applicable only to a limited range of situations. There are many empirical equations for estimation of maximum scour depth; however they are derived for a special condition and each equation obtains different values for same case. It seems necessary to evaluate these equations. We collected different data sets (contain 450 data set) from several researcher's experiments and used them to compare existent equation's ability of accuracy predict. The comparison shows that these equations can't predict scour depth accurately. Also in this research we re-analysis the scour around a spur dike with dimensional analysis and obtain dimensionless maximum scour depth as a function of dimensionless parameters. Then we derive a new equation from this relation and a wide rang of data set. Finally the previous equations are compared with proposed equation.
