Nonreciprocal transmission characteristics of a microstrip line using nonuniformly magnetized ferrite substrate are investigated by using the full-wave finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method taking into account the nonuniform internal bias magnetic field generated artificially by oppositely polarized a pair of permanent magnets. The FDTD result explains that large isolation with low insertion loss is obtained when the distance between magnet and ferrite substrate is optimum. Nonreciprocal transmission characteristics with low insertion loss of 0.8dB/cm and isolation of 22.5dB/cm were observed around 13.4GHz.
