Although the production programme has only reached the 7% completion stage, the early results of these innovations are extremely encouraging. Repair rates in the cored wire applications are very low e.g the full penetration butt welds completed with GSFCAW show a repair rate of 1.3%. Distortion has been below anticipated values and productivity increased. The indications are good. However the final judgements have still to be made.
