To investigate a possibility of corrective figuring of the dies, a series of experiments of air mist nano-abrasion machining of the PVD coated cemented carbide were conducted and fundamental machining characteristics were examined. The used abrasives were fine grains of silicon carbide and aluminum oxide. The slurry was fed to a jet nozzle where it was atomized and accelerated by compressed air brow. PVD coating was useful to obtain better surface finishing in nano-abrasion machining of cemented carbide. The surface roughness Ra could be improved down to 10nm with finer abrasives and higher air pressures. Therefore the nano-abrasion machining seems applicable to corrective figuring of optical glass molding dies.
