The paper describes an investigation of shear wave velocity on the Belgian Boom clay at Sint-Katelijne-Waver. The results from both in situ and laboratory tests are presented. In situ measurements investigate shear wave velocities using the Seismic Cone Penetration Test (SCPT) and surface wave velocities using Spectral Analysis of Surface Waves (SASW). Laboratory tests obtain shear wave velocities using multi-direction bender elements in a stress path triaxial cell under K_0 condition. The results of the in situ and laboratory investigations are described and compared. Laboratory results are generally consistent with in situ results.
