Preliminary Studies in Natural Decay Resistance of Western Red-Cedar

This paper analyzes the antifungal property of the extractives of Western red -cedar. The samples of Western red-cedar were extracted by different polar solvents and then taken to do fungus resistance test in order to appraise the antifungal properties. The results of extraction experiment and fungus resistance test show that the extractives are extremely abundant in Western red -cedar and have good antifungal property, due to the chemical components in the heartwood, especially, the extractives of methanol, chloroform and n-hexane. Therefore the study on antifungal components of the extractives of Western Red Cedar has good prospect.
