With the rapid growth of the power grid, it’s more and more important to keep the grid stable using not only secondly frequency regulation but also primary frequency regulation (PFR) function. On the other hand, combined cycles units are rapidly growing in recent years and it’s necessary to analysis the PFR characteristic of them. In this article, the structure and brief characteristic of the governing system especially the primary frequency regulation function of large scale combined cycle units such as GE 9F single-shaft, GE 9E multi-shaft and M701F singleshaft units are analyzed first. Then, disturbances of turbine speed are performed for these units to investigate the primary frequency regulation ability of these kinds of units. After tests and analysis, conclusions were obtained.
