摘要

Coal is the mainstay of power generation in India. However, Indian coals have higher ash content. There are several cleaner coal technologies which may be used in the long run, this may afford cleaner use of coal and thus would help in the utilization of large reserves of coal in India. The cleaner coal technologies may be divided into eight categories. These include: (1) Pre-combustion control of pollution (2), During - combustion control of pollution, (3) Post-combustion control of pollution, (4) Conversion of coal to cleaner fuel forms, (5) Refining of coal, (6) Step-wise coal conversion (7) Coal -fuel based fuel cells, (8) Co- processing of coal with oil, organic wastes, biomass, coal-water mixture combustion etc. These technologies may be studied and assessed for utilizing with different Indian coals for power generation. Some of the technologies may have to be modified for use with Indian coals.
