Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) techniques have been used to study both the raw powder used to process auxetic polymers (i.e. those with a negative Poisson's ratio) and a variety of auxetic samples of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and polypropylene (PP) with a range of auxetic behaviour. Tests on the raw powder have allowed the temperature to be identified at which fibril formation commences, which is useful for defining processing windows for candidate auxetic polymers. Tests on auxetic but structural polymers have revealed that the processing affects both UHMWPE and PP in exactly the same manner, raising the maximum melting temperature by 6℃ and lowering the crystallinity by 11% in each case.
