In the study, Hokksund sand and nonplastic silt were used as the host materials, and the cyclic undrained triaxial tests were carried out on the samples with different amount of fines contents of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 30%, 50%, 70% and 94%. The cyclic stress ratio to cause the initial liquefaction was evaluated for all the tested samples with different relative densities and under different cyclic stress levels. It was found that it is a good way to use the corrected intergrain void ratios as the controlling parameters to characterize the behavior of the tested soils, the previous test results on cyclic behavior of sand with different amount of fines were also re-examined, and the behavior can be characterized in a unified way using the intergrain void ratios, even though the tested soils and the tested methods were different.
