摘要

Wave induced liquefaction is one of the potential failure modes of vertical breakwaters founded on sandy soils and offshore gravity platforms placed on a sandy seabed. Analysis of the failure risk requires insight in a number of phenomena, such as wave induced cyclic loading, generation of instantaneous and residual pore pressures, drainage of excess pore pressures, decrease in pore volume, increase in resistance to pore pressure generation and stress re-distribution. Possibilities for analysis and modelling of these phenomena are discussed. Among them are simple graphs, sophisticated numerical models, sample tests and large scale model tests. Examples are presented. Design implications are summarised.
