Paul Wurth solutions for environmentally safe gas treatment in non-ferrous industry applications

Paul Wurth Umwelttechnik GmbH (PWDE) presents typical solutions for waste gas treatment in non-ferrous installations. Special aspects will be given to perform the best environmental safety. The equipment recently installed at Sudamin MHD GmbH, Duisburg (Germany) for dry and wet gas treatment, dust handling and liquid stripping for gas exhausted from a non-ferrous sinter plant will be presented. The sinter process in this plant exhausts hot gas laden with dust, SO_2 and and has to be treated to produce sulphuric acid in a downstream plant. In the first step dust is precipitated in a hot electrostatic precipitator (ESP). Then the gas is completely saturated with water in a wet gas quencher to prepare the SO_2-enriched gas for further processing. The dust collected in the ESP is led to a mixing tank to prepare a slurry, which is pumped to the slurry treatment plant. Effluents from the quencher are stripped from SO_2 with air and led into the water treatment plant. The exhaust gas is recycled into the sinter plant. Paul Wurth Umwelttechnik GmbH had a turnkey contract for the ESP, quencher, stripper, mixing tank, ducts and piping, electric and control between the sinter plant and the sulphuric acid plant.
