We first analyze survivable mapping of logical topology in Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) networks, such that failure of a single link in the physical topology will not propagate to higher-level logical network. We specifically consider the survivable mapping in WDM ring networks. We focus on reconfiguration of logical topology, and keeping the network survivable throughout the reconfiguration process. We present CostEffectiveSurvivableReconfig heuristic algorithm for such survivable reconfiguration, which would determine the series of reconfiguration steps, and tries to minimize the reconfiguration cost.
