The Humber is of vital importance to the UK's economy and environment. Its international wildlife conservation status influences all uses of the estuary's waters and activities around its banks. The achievement of the goals of economic development and regeneration, flood protection, and environmental enhancement requires the use of novel solutions, such as waste minimisation and managed realignment. Partnership working is well developed and action is in progress to ensure that the numerous plans, strategies and management schemes and compatible and fully integrated. The Humber is a testbed for practical sustainable management.
