THE EFFECT OF FUEL PARAMETERS ON THE PERFORMANCE OF A CIRCULATING FLUIDIZED BED BOILER

A circulating fluidized bed boiler can use a wide range of coal other than the designed one with a minimal effect on the boiler efficiency and emission level. The moisture content has the greatest effect on the stack loss and consequently on the boiler efficiency. A CFB may suffer a significant loss in efficiency for switching from designed bituminous coal to lignite. Since stack loss is the major component to the total loss the efficiency is not affected much for a change in fuel provided the flue gas production does not change greatly. The steam production can be controlled up to a certain level by changing the primary to secondary air flow rate and total solid hold up.
