Patent glazing, unlike curtain walling, windows or other glazing systems, is a self draining and ventilated system of glazing, which does not rely entirely for its weathertightness upon external seals. It essentially consists of a series of continuous longitudinal glazing bars with an infilling of glass (or other suitable material). Most test methods for windows and glazing are based on driving rain conditions derived from mean hourly wind and rain statistics. Patent glazing, however, due to its more 'open' nature is more susceptible to short duration high intensity driving rain conditions. This paper describes the analysis of 42 station-years of sub-hourly driving rain data to produce a geographical distribution of extreme-value driving rain statistics for the UK.
