This paper reports on the recent developments in oil-lubricated or 'wet' braking. Despite lower operational temperatures in an oil-lubricated environment, excessive temperatures can still be generated, particularly on frequently-stopping heavy vehicles, resulting in brake fade. In an attempt to maintain lower braking temperatures, liquid-cooled housings and liquid-cooled pads and rotors have been developed. Preliminary testing has proven their effectiveness. This technology can be applied to all vehicles, and is particularly suitable for frequently-stopping vehicles such as rubbish collection trucks and high speed applications.
