UPDATE ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF FEA-1100, A NOVEL FOAM EXPANSION AGENT FOR POLYURETHANE FOAMS

FEA-1100 is a novel foam expansion agent for polyurethane foams developed by DuPont Fluoroproducts. FEA-1100 is characterized by zero ozone depletion potential, low global warming potential, non-flammability, and low toxicity. Polyurethane foams produced employing FEA-1100 exhibited superior insulation properties (higher R values) compared to those obtained with current agents such as HFC-245fa, HFC-365rrtfc and cyclopentane. We present here an update on the properties and use of this new environmentally-preferred foam expansion agent, including physical properties of FEA-1100 and the properties of polyurethane foams produced utilizing FEA-1100.
