Technyl~?XCell are Rhodia's newly developed nylon 6,6 & nylon 6 grades for microcellular injection moulding, a physical foaming process. Technyl~?XCell offers best performances in terms of surface aesthetics, equivalent to standard injection moulding, with excellent mechanical performance retention. Technyl~?XCell represents a technical breakthrough and a market 1st. These innovative grades render more accessible the benefits of microcellular foam processing by removing the barrier of undesirable surface aesthetics normally associated with this process. Technyl~?XCell's polymer architecture and rheology allows a best control of foam cell formation and aesthetics during microcellular injection moulding. Microcellular process mapping, via design of experiment (DOE), has successfully identified the critical process parameters influencing surface aesthetics, cell size and mechanical performance. Automotive case studies have shown that this matching of technologies, between Technyl~?XCel! and microcellular injection moulding, can meet challenging automotive application needs. This match offers the best of both worlds, providing microcellular productivity and problem solving capabilities, with the surface aesthetics associated with standard injection moulding.
