Ipriflavone Effects on Bone Metabolism of ISA Cage Layers in Vitro and in Vivo

The effect of ipriflavoe on bone metabolism were examined using a culture system and in ISA cage layers Ipriflavone (10~(-9)-10~(-7)M) could obviously improve chicken osteoblasts function, correspondingly, the same doses ipriflavone could inhibit chicken mature osteoclasts activity, however, when the concentration of ipriflavone was higher than 10~(-4)M, it could inhibit osteoblasts activity. The results suggested that the effects of ipriflavone on bone metabolism was based on regulating the function balance of chicken osteoblasts and osteoclasts. According to above experiments in vitro, we further clarified the effects of ipriflavone in vivo. Five hundred 58-weeks age ISA cage layers were divided into five groups, that was group A(control), B, C, D, and E. Ipriflavone was added to group B, C, D, E at the doses of 15 ppm, 25 ppm, 50 ppm, 100 ppm, respectively. The experiment lasted over 70 days. The results showed that the egg laying rate of group C was significantly higher than that of control and the other experimental groups, the laying rate of group D and E were apparently lower than that of group A, B, C. The mean egg weight and shell quality of group C were best, but not significant. The body weight didn't varied significantly in each group. The serous level of phosphor of group C and calcium of group B was significantly lower. The serous level of ALP and BGP of group C were significantly higher. There were no changes observed in serous level of E_2 of all experiment groups.
