In this study, we were established the method of culture and identification of osteoclastic cells from long bones of duck, to provide the research foundation of various factors contributing to bone malnutrition. Osteoclast precursors and osteoclasts were harvested by flushing the marrow from long bones of duck with serum-free α minimum essential media (α-MEM, GIBCO/BRL, U.S.A). Marrow cells were centrifuged (1200r/min, 10min), resuspended in α-MEM supplemented with 15% heat-inactivated fetal calf serum (FCS, Hangzhou Biological Company, China) and 10~(-8) M 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D_3 (Sigma-Aldrich, UK).
