According to the new European earthquake standard Eurocode 8 seismic loads increase significantly in regions of low or moderate seismicity. Combined with the proposed behaviour factor of q = 1.5 the earthquake resistance of several common types of unreinforced masonry buildings can't be proven numerically. To examine the seismic behaviour of constructions with loadbearing autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) masonry walls under realistic conditions, numerical as well as experimental investigations have been carried out. For the numerical investigations a material model based on the theory of plasticity has been developed and for the experimental investigations pseudodynamic tests on full scale masonry walls with dimensions of 1.25 m x 0.24 m x 2.5 m have been carried out.
