High speed rotating arc sensor has up to 50 HZ rotating frequency and compared with the existing arc sensors, it can be much more compact, cheaper and more sensitive. To apply high speed rotating arc sensor to seam tracking in arc welding robots will open up broad application prospects. A communication interface is made between robot and the controlling system of high speed rotating arc sensor. In order to avoid the electric disturbance between robot and industry control computer, optoelectronic isolator is used in this interface so that seam correction data can be transmitted to robot by the inside digital input interface of the robot, Through this interface, the high speed rotating arc sensor controlling system can adjust the welding torch to move in front, back, left and right direction. A application program interface is designed for controlling seam tracking. According to the seam tracking test of curve seam, it reveals that the structure of the designed communication interface is simple, reliable and can meet the requirement of seam tracking. The research findings give solid theoretical foundations to the intellectualization of arc welding robots and the popularizing high speed rotating arc sensor.
