A fiber was prepared from phenol formaldehyde(PF) and polypropylene(PP) blend by melt-spinning. Through high temperature treatment, the PP component was removed and the PF component was carbonized into thin carbonfibers. Structures of the carbon fibers was investigated via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and x-ray diffraction (XRD). The effects of the draw ratio during spinning on the morphology of the thin carbon fiber were researched. The optimal condition made carbon fibers with great L/D ratio and diameter less than 150 nm.
