The paper will discuss five main areas in maximizing profitability by optimizing plant performance and coal market suitability. These areas are: (ⅰ) Matching coal sales quality specifications to the coals destined to service them. (ⅱ) Monitoring and optimizing circuit efficiency. (ⅲ) Establishing, implementing and auditing best practices. (ⅳ) Running all plant circuits at equal incremental ash for coking coal plants and at equal incremental inerts for steam coal plants. (ⅴ) Continually evaluating circuit alternatives.
