A Solid Culture Medium of Ferrocyande Degrading Microorganisms

We assayed three types of basal solid media described by Kunz et al., White et al. and Boucaveille et al. These media were supplied with ferrocyanide as carbon and nitrogen source. The ferrocyanide biodegradation activity was determined with a modified Boucaveille medium. This new formulation allows to recognize the degrading activity in the plates by means of the development of degradation halo around the colonies. These studies allow us the isolation of ferrocyanide degrading bacteria and fungi from liquid and solid samples of cyanide mine retails.
