EUMETSAT CONTRIBUTIONS TO GLOBAL EARTH OBSERVATION INITIATIVES

In its more than 20-year history the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) has been establishing, maintaining and exploiting European systems of operational meteorological satellites, which provide essential information to the national meteorological services in its Member States and contribute to the operational monitoring of the climate and the detection of global climate changes. By their nature space activities are taking place in a global context and so it is not surprising that EUMETSAT is a major partner and contributor to various international efforts in the field. This paper presents an overview of the EUMETSAT programmes and assets and how they contribute to international Earth Observation initiatives and partnerships.
