The compressible characteristics in high velocity aerated flow on the order of 50m/s are analyzed. Based on the compressible flow theory, relation of speed of sound for high velocity aerated flow is theoretically deduced. And comparison with measured data is made. The theoretical and experimental results show speed of sound for aerated flow is merely on the order of tens of meters per second; the minimum value is only 20m/s, which is far less than that for water or air alone. So high subsonic flow, supersonic flow and transonic flow as well as compression wave, shock wave and expansion wave similarly to aerodynamics may be produced in high velocity aerated flow on the order of 50m/s. Influences of these compressible characteristics on high head discharge structures cannot be neglected, especially on super high dams over 200m high.
