Planning of Transportation System in Indian Metropolises

摘要

On transportation in urban areas intense planning efforts are underway and many initiatives are being undertaken in both mega cities and million plus cities on war-footing. The paper looks at the three Indian mega cities, Delhi, Mumbai & Kolkata, each with a population well over 10 million, and the varied and comprehensive measures being undertaken regarding upgrading the existing systems and developing new ones. Lower level and less cost intensive measures are being implemented in the million plus cities such as Thiruvananthapuram and Indore. These efforts aim to arrest haphazard development. The Indian urban transport scenario is changing fast and the paper document the same.
