Studies on Thermal Decomposition Characteristics of CL-20/HMX Binary Systems

The thermal decomposition characteristics of CL-20/HMX binary systems were studied by means of high pressure DSC (PDSC). It was found that at ambient pressure, the decomposition peak temperature of CL-20 in the binary systems decreases owing to the addition of HMX, but CL-20 does not influence the thermal decomposition of HMX. At higher pressure, the thermal decomposition of CL-20 is accelerated by HMX, while the peak temperatures of HMX decomposition decrease with pressure and the CL-20 content increasing. The kinetic parameters of CL-20 in the binary systems were calculated by Ozawa's method. The influence of the mass ratio of the mixture and pressures on the kinetic parameters was investigated. The results show that the apparent activation energies of CL-20 in the systems increase with the pressure and the conversion ratio increasing.
