Photocatalysis of N/Fe Co-doped TiO_2 under Visible Light

TiO_2 is an effective pohocatalysts. However, it works only under ultraviolet light. Co-doping can improve the properties of TiO_2 under visible light. Pure and co-doped TiO_2 catalysts with various amounts of N and Fe were prepared by a sol-gel method. The photo-degradation of ammonia under visible light on the catalysts was investigated. The result showed that the photocatalytic activity of co-doped TiO_2 prepared with the conditions of 1at % N, 0.06 at% Fe, calcinated at 500 ℃, was the highest. The influence order of the factors on catalyst photocatalytic activity was Fe > N > calcination temperature. The transfer from the anatase phase to the rutile phase for TiO_2 was weakened as the co-doping of N and Fe. The capture of excited photo-electrons by Fe played an important role in enhancing the ability of TiO_2 while doping N was responsible for broadening the spectrum response range of TiO_2 to visible light.
