Equivalence of DC interruption is the fundamental requirement of synthetic test for HVDC circuit breakers. Based on the equivalent principles of the AC synthetic test circuit, a novel synthetic test method and equivalent conditions are proposed and discussed for the mechanical DC vacuum circuit breaker. A synthetic test circuit topology with three power supply sources is presented. An independent TRV source is combined with the current source. Electromagnetic transient simulation software was used for modeling of the synthetic test circuit and for simulation of DC interruption process. The parameters of the test circuit are analyzed. A synthetic test system was built and the preliminary tests has been performed. The synthetic test circuit with three power supply sources can satisfy fundamental equivalent conditions of DC interruption test.
