The study of the influence of HTPB pre-polymer, DOS plasticizer and IPDI cure agent on thermal decomposition of RDX explosive mixtures is presented. Simultaneous thermal analysis (DSC-TG) was used in characterization of both, the individual components and the explosives mixtures. Non-isothermal kinetic analysis was used to study, in a semi-quantitative basis, the decomposition processes of the following reactive systems: pure RDX, mixtures of RDX/HTPB (85/15), RDX/HTPB/DOS (85/11.5/3.5) and RDX/HTPB/DOS/IPDI (85/10.46/3.49/1.05) explosive mixtures. The Arrhenius parameters were estimated by well-established methods, but emphasis was given to isoconversional methods as a diagnostic source for checking the possible occurrence of complex reactions. The results are thus discused on a comparative basis taking into account the dependencies of the activation energy upon the degree of conversion, and by analyzing departures of the thermal behavior of mixtures from the thermal behavior of main components individually studied.
