The paper describes observed water current, pressures andtemperatures beneath the ice in a narrow and shallow part of theVan Mijen Fjord, Spitsbergen during winter 2008. The surveyinstrumentation included an 3D Acoustic Doppler velocitymeter and temperature and pressure sensors. The observationswere used to calculate mean currents, tidal amplitudes, Reynoldstresses, water–ice drag coefficients and turbulent heat fluxes.The maximal heat fluxes to ice bottom reached 10 W/m~2 duringrising tides. The mean drag coefficients varied between 0.003and 0.004. Water velocity oscillations directed transversally tothe fjord and water pressure oscillation at bottom with periodsmultiples of 12.5 min were observed at low tide.
