For a drastic reduction of GHG emission from the ship service, the ideato liquidize and store CO_2 in tanks on board was investigated premisingthe GHG storage in the aquifers under ocean floor. As a result, ethaneis the most appropriate fuel for boiler/turbine system because itsfluidization pressure and temperature are similar to those of liquid CO_2,which enables the empty fuel tanks to store 76 percent of captured CO_2.Oxygen can be supplied from membrane-type air separation system onboard. The total cost of the proposed system is estimated to 22.6 USD /CO_2 ton if the waste heat from the main engine can be available forpower generators.
