Shoaling of solitary waves on a uniform plane beach connected to aconstant-depth wave tank is investigated numerically using thesmoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method. The characteristics ofwater surface elevations have been analyzed for wave shoaling. To testthe validity of the numerical model, the relative wave heights, the timehistories of the free surface profiles are measured at several locationsalong the slope. In addition, the breaking points, breaking index anddifferent breaking types have also been analyzed. Compared withlaboratory data, and theory solutions, the calculated results from thepresent model are acceptable, indicating that the numerical model isreasonable.
